If you haven’t noticed yet, smart home speakers like the Google Nest Audio have taken the world by storm. In fact, it’s estimated that by 2025, 75% of homes will be running on these smart hubs that can pretty much do anything you ask. So if the Google Nest can really do almost anything, you may be wondering, can I listen to audiobooks on Google Nest Audio?

You can listen to audiobooks on the Google Nest through Google Play Books, and the great news is, it is incredibly easy to connect and use. All you need to do is download the Google Play Books app, sign in and set up a payment method, choose a book, and command your Nest Audio to play the book aloud.

In this article, we are going to go through the step-by-step directions on how to connect your smartphone to your Nest Audio so that you can begin to enjoy listening to audiobooks out loud within the next few minutes! We will also discuss which audiobook apps you will and will not be able to use with your Nest Audio, and even how to control the device to play your favorite books with just your voice!

How to Use Google Play Books

Before we go ahead and step through the instructions on how to listen to Google Play Books on your Nest Audio, you will probably want to know how to set up the app itself.

On any smart device such as an iPhone, iPad, Android, or tablet, you simply need to access the app store and download the Google Play Books app.

From there, it will ask you to sign in to your Google account, and you can scan the book options to find your favorite. Of course, you will also need to put in a payment method to be charged for whatever book you choose.

Once you have downloaded an audiobook you would like to listen to, you need to connect the Nest Audio to the smart device you used for your download.

How to Connect Google Play Books to Nest Audio

Connecting the Nest Audio to your Google Play Books app is incredibly easy. In fact, you don’t need to do anything other than making sure the Nest Audio is connected to your device via the Google Home app.

If you have not already connected your smart device and Nest Audio, here’s what you need to do:

  • First, ensure that both the Nest Audio and the smart device you want to pair are connected to the same wireless network.
  • From there, turn on your device and download the Google Home app.
  • You will be prompted to sign in or sign up.
  • Then, you will need to connect the Nest Audio by selecting the “+” icon.
  • Select SET UP DEVICE, then NEW DEVICE.
  • The Nest Audio option should appear on your screen.
  • Select it and follow the remaining prompts.

Your device will now be controllable through the Nest Audio, including the ability to listen to audiobooks you have downloaded on the Google Play Books app.

How to Listen to Audiobooks on Nest Audio

Now that you are all set up to listen to your audiobooks through the Google Play Books app, you will certainly want to know how to instruct your Nest Audio to play them.

As with any Nest Audio command, begin by saying “Okay Google” or “Hey Google”, then simply say “Read [my book or title.]”

You can also control the speed, stop the reading, skip sections, find out how much time is left, find out more about the author, set the volume, move through chapters, and more by using the various commands Google has provided

Which Other Audiobooks Apps Are Available on Google Nest Audio?

If you don’t want to use Google Play Books to download and listen to audiobooks on your Google Nest, there are a few other options.

Even though Google and Amazon usually don’t partner up, you can listen to your favorite books on Audible through the built-in Chromecast operation on the Nest Audio.

Another great option is Libriox, which provides hundreds of classic tales for free. In order to listen to them on your Nest Audio, simply download the app on your phone and then use the voice command “Hey Google, talk to book reader” and proceed to instruct what you would like to listen to.

While there are several other audiobook apps, some will not function with the Google Assistant, so it’s important to do a little research if you have a specific company in mind before you buy your favorite audiobook if you intend to listen to it on the Google Nest Audio.

Final Thoughts

The good news is, you can definitely listen to audiobooks on Google Nest Audio.

Using Google Play Books is certainly the easiest way to enjoy hours of your favorite books, as all you need is one voice command!
