As a music lover, you enjoy connecting all your gadgets to your playlist to enjoy quality songs in different parts of your home. A lot of Amazon Echo devices permit this function, but can the Echo Glow sync to music?

The Echo Glow itself cannot sync to music. However, if you connect it to an Echo device that can play music, you can use voice commands to start a dance party on your Echo Glow. With this feature activated, music will play from another Echo device while the Echo Glow gives off a light disco setting.

The Echo Glow is a child-friendly smart lighting device. Though it may be small, its many unique features pack a nice punch. Keep reading to learn how you can enjoy music with your Echo Glow!

Can the Echo Glow Sync to Music?

The Echo Glow is a smart light with child-friendly features. Unlike other Echo devices, it does not have a speaker to play music or a microphone to transmit voice commands.

However, the Echo Show does give you the option to ask Alexa to “start a dance party.” Your Echo Glow will immediately adopt a disco light setting as music plays from another Echo device in your home. However, for this to work, you need to create a group within the Alexa app and connect your Echo Glow to an Alexa-enabled Echo device.

How to Create a Group for Echo Devices

Alexa Groups allow you to activate various Echo devices in your home through one source instead of issuing separate voice commands for each. All you need to do is choose the Echo devices you want to link together using the Alexa app.

Creating a group is not a complex procedure. Follow these steps to link your Echo devices to one group:

  • Open the Alexa App.
  • Click “Devices” on the bottom panel of the screen.
  • Select the plus sign at the top right.
  • Click “Add Group” and give the group a name.
  • Select the Echo devices you want in the group, including an Alexa-enabled device and the Echo Glow.
  • Press “Save.”
  • Select the newly created group on your dashboard.
  • Scroll down to the Preferred Speaker category. This category allows you to choose the device you want your music to play from.
  • Choose your device, then press “Save.”

Once your new group is set up, you can say, “Alexa, turn on (group name).” Then say, “Alexa, play music.” The Echo Glow will blink its party lights while the music plays. You can stop it by saying, “Alexa, stop the music.”

How Do You Sync Music to Echo?

Before you can use your Echo Glow’s dance party feature, you will need to link your music library to your Alexa-enabled device. By default, your Echo device will link to Amazon Music. However, it’s also compatible with Spotify and Apple Music.

If you subscribe to other streaming services, you can wirelessly access and stream songs by connecting your mobile phone to your Echo device. Follow these steps to do so:

  • Turn on Bluetooth on your smartphone.
  • Go to your Bluetooth settings and connect to your Echo device.
  • Wait for Alexa to confirm that the connection was successful.

Now, you can play music from your phone to your Echo device. With the Echo Glow, you can tell Alexa to engage a dance party to match the flow of the music.

How Can You Create a Party Routine for Echo Glow?

For your Echo Glow lights to achieve that party glow, you will need to set a routine on the Alexa app. Through this routine, your Echo Glow will be activated whenever other Echo devices play music. Just follow these quick steps to set it up:

  • Open the Alexa app.
  • Click “More,” then select “Routines.”
  • Create a new routine by clicking the plus sign on the screen.
  • Enter a routine name, such as “Dance Party.” Then, click Next.
  • Tap on the plus sign beside “When this happens.”
  • Select “Voice.” Then, choose which voice command will trigger the routine. You can type, “Alexa, start a dance party.” Then, tap Next.
  • Click “Add action” and scroll down to Smart Home.
  • Click “Lights,” then select Echo Glow.
  • Select “Mode” and choose “Disco.”
  • Save your changes.

Now, you can use the voice command you have set for this party routine to activate the disco light feature.

Final Thoughts

The Echo Glow itself cannot sync to or play music because it doesn’t have speakers and microphones. However, it can be connected to an Alexa-enabled device to activate a “dance party” when music plays. To enjoy music with the Echo Glow, you can link your Echo devices to a group and have music play from external speakers while the Echo Glow displays party disco lights.
