Arlo Video Doorbells are a great way to keep your home safe, but they only work if they are connected to Wi-Fi!
Here are the reasons why your Arlo Video Doorbell won’t connect to Wi-Fi:
- Your Arlo app needs to be updated.
- You changed routers and need to re-pair.
- The Wi-Fi network is 5 GHz instead of 2.4 GHz.
- The router is out of range.
- The connection speed has fallen below 2Mbps.
So if your Arlo Video Doorbell doesn’t connect to Wi-Fi, this article will tell you why and, more importantly, how to fix it.
Arlo App Needs Updating
Most of us skip updates on our phones when they pop up, which means we’ll have to stop using them for the time being! But having the latest version of your apps ensures they function properly.
To fix an Arlo Video Doorbell that won’t connect to Wi-Fi, you may just need to update the Arlo app!
How to Fix an Outdated Arlo App
When you open your smartphone, you can head to the app settings and select the Arlo app. It will prompt you to update the app if it’s waiting for you.
While in the settings menu, you should also ensure that Wi-Fi Assist and Adaptive Wi-Fi features are turned off on your mobile device.
You Changed Routers
If your Arlo Video Doorbell was connected to the internet but stopped working, it may be because you changed routers!
Although many of your devices may have automatically reconnected to the router if it was replaced, the Arlo Video Doorbell won’t and won’t work properly until you re-pair it.
How to Fix an Old Router Connected to the Arlo Doorbell
To connect your Arlo Video Doorbell to the new router, here’s what you need to do:
- Open the Arlo app.
- Click on the Devices menu.
- Opt to connect through or without a Base Station.
- Follow the prompts to connect to your Wi-Fi network.
That’s all there is to it! But if you’re having any trouble, check out this our TechSupportal for all the specific answers you may need.
Wi-Fi Network is Not 2.4 GHz
When it comes to your home wireless network, you may have either a 2.4 GHz system or a 5 GHz system.
And while 5 GHz systems are often praised for being faster, they don’t have as wide a range.
But more importantly, Arlo Video Doorbells do not function unless connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. So if your device simply won’t connect to your Wi-Fi, this may be your problem.
How to Fix a Wi-Fi Network that is 5 GHz
First, you must find out what kind of Wi-Fi network you’re working with.
And if it is 5 GHz, luckily, you can change it to 2.4 GHz quite easily! All you need to do is follow the instructions on your internet service provider’s page.
For most companies, it’s simply opening a web browser and navigating the channel menu to change it.
The Wi-Fi Router is Out of Range
If the Arlo Video Doorbell is not connecting, it may be that your router is simply too far away from the device to function properly.
This can also occur due to interference from baby monitors, microwaves, or other smart home devices.
How to Fix an Out-of-Range Router
Essentially, there are two ways to solve this problem easily: You can move the router closer to the Arlo Video Doorbell, or you can opt for a mesh system that will increase the range of your router.
Mesh systems are becoming increasingly popular as so many home devices are smart devices, and therefore, Wi-Fi needs the strength to run them in every corner of the house.
And luckily, creating a mesh system, whether with TP-Link, Orbi-Mesh, or Mesh Force, is really quite simple.
Plus, not only will your Arlo Video Doorbell connect to your Wi-Fi properly, but you’ll also ensure that all your other smart devices stay connected and function as they should.
Connection Speed is too Slow
Another common problem Arlo owners encounter is actually because of Wi-Fi connectivity issues.
While the device doesn’t need an extensive connection speed to function, it needs at least 2Mbps.
In many cases, you can check the speed of your home wireless network on a website and find out if that’s your problem.
Sometimes, your internet service provider intentionally slows down your bandwidth with data throttling.
How to Fix a Slow Connection Speed
But either way, you need to contact your internet service provider and find out if there is a problem with your router or if you need to update your package for more speed.
Finally, if none of these troubleshooting tactics work and it still won’t connect to Wi-Fi, you will need to go ahead and reset your Arlo Doorbell.
But luckily, we have all the information on resetting the Arlo Video Doorbell in just a few minutes on our universal tech support page!
