6 Cool Things the Echo Show 15 Can Do

The Echo Show 15 is Amazon’s largest tablet yet. It was designed to help you with almost every daily home task you can think of. This device has many features that can simplify your life in ways you never even thought of.

Six of the coolest things the Echo Show 15 can do include:

  • Call other Echo Show devices
  • “Drop in” to other Echo devices
  • Make announcements
  • Function as a security camera
  • Add shortcuts for quick launch
  • Help you find recipes

This device includes many simple but interesting features that enhance your in-home communication, security, and user experience. Keep reading to find out more about what your Echo Show 15 can do for you!

Call Other Echo Show Devices

The Echo Show 15 allows you to communicate with others in your home wherever there is another Echo Show device. No matter the model, you can ask Alexa to call another Echo device in your home, and the other person will be able to see and hear you clearly.

You can also add Echo Show devices in other homes to your contact list and make a call that way. This is an especially handy feature for easily communicating with family members across the country.

By default, Echo Shows will use the Alexa app for video calls to other Echo devices. However, you can also start a conference call through Skype. Other popular apps, such as Zoom, are not supported yet, but keep an eye out for this option in future updates.

“Drop in” to Other Echo Devices

The Echo Show’s “drop in” feature is similar to its video calling feature. However, it does not require the person on the other side to answer the call. Just ask Alexa to drop in another Echo device, and it will start the call.

If you call an Echo Show, the live feed will not start immediately for security reasons. Instead, it will start with a blurry video and change to a clear view after 10 seconds. This will give the other person time to realize you are calling and prepare accordingly. Similarly, when you’re dropping in to an Echo device without a screen, it will wait a few seconds to notify the other person through a blinking yellow light.

Make Announcements

Not only can your Echo Show 15 start a video call with any other Echo device, but it can also send announcements to other devices. The Echo Show will play these announcements on every Echo device connected to your Echo Show 15 through the Alexa app.

For example, let’s say you want to let everyone know that dinner is ready or it is time to go to class. Instead of telling everyone in the house separately, you can simply send an announcement through Alexa.

Function as a Security Camera

If you’re an avid player in the smart home world, you likely already have other Blink or Ring security cameras installed in your backyard, front porch, or inside the house. However, you will not need to purchase a camera to place in the same location as your Echo Show 15.

Using the Alexa app, you can access the 5MP camera’s live feed from anywhere in the world and see everything that is happening. You will need to keep the camera shutter open to do this, and keep in mind that you will not be able to record any footage.

Add Shortcuts for Quick Launch

The Echo Show 15 has many popular pre-installed apps, including Prime Video. However, it might not come right out of the box with all your favorite apps or have them available for download in the app store.

Luckily, there’s an easy way around this. You can use the pre-installed Amazon Silk web browser to find the webpages, then add a shortcut on your home screen. This way, you will see the app’s icon on your home screen. Clicking this icon will take you to the webpage through the browser directly.

Help You Find Recipes

The Echo Show 15 is a great device to have in your kitchen. After all, it is meant to be hung on the wall like a pinboard. You can add a Widget that shows you a different recipe every day, or you can simply ask Alexa to show you a specific recipe you would like to cook. When you click on a specific recipe, you will be able to:

  • Read how to prepare it step-by-step
  • Watch a video tutorial on preparing it
  • Save the recipe for later
  • Add the ingredients to your shopping list

Keep in mind that you can also buy any of the ingredients you need simply by asking Alexa to purchase them through Amazon.

Wrapping Up

The Echo Show 15 is packed with cool features, all of which are readily available right out of the box. This device can help you with anything from communicating with others and security to cooking and adding shortcuts to use the interface more efficiently.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, and there are many other features currently available. Amazon is constantly updating its devices, so keep an eye out for new options in the future. If there is something that comes to your mind that you think you could do through Alexa, simply ask her to do a task, and you will find many more features.
